Torqeedo erweitert Cruise-Produktreihe

Initially, the project was intended to build the most “green” sailing ship. Its sails, solar panels and hydro generation were supposed to be the main energy source. Yet, the hydro generation failed to work immediately. It took 12 months to squeeze a solution from the manufacturer, Torqeedo, but the automatic mode in which the engine speed should be adjusted independently, has failed to work so far. Currently, it is impossible to use the hydrogeneration for a long time. That's why we have to use permanently the 25 Kw Whisper Hygen diesel generators. Torqeedo suggested some upgrade of the generators while the boat was in Trinidad. We found the best available technician there who was also accepted by Torqeedo. During his works we were unable to get technical support and guidance from TQ headquarters since no one was available to communicate by telephone or mails. We were left alone again. As a result we still have so difficulty when starting the port side one. However, the initially designed capacity of the generators is insufficient. Under the 2x100 kW power, the engines are only capable of producing only 2x18=36 kW in the regime of extended operation. The generators constantly go out of order as the cooling system fails. Currently, we also see black smoke coming out of the exhaust. Separately, I would like to note that we have expected service support and maintenance by Torqeedo, but in fact we have been left on our own to solve all the problems. We keep an emergency supply of impellers for the cooling generators’ pump, as every time when overheating, the automation turns off the engines generators immediately after the impeller melts. We have the same problem with the cooling of the boat’s marine engines - the impellers constantly overheat and fail to work properly. The situation is aggravated by the fact that both AC/DC and the controller of the entire system, which controls the generators, chargers, and the ship’s engines, is connected to the same cooling circuit. We now must keep an emergency set spare pumps. It is not “service free system” but rather high maintenance system, which requires constant communication with TQ main office. This usually fails. Each appeal to Torqeedo has been delayed for several weeks, whereas many get just kiss-offs. The received documents prove to be incomplete and many functions are not described as they should, while significant part of the stuff is managed remotely from their servers. We feel that we have been sold a raw and unfinished product, while the manufacturer does not seek to modify or correct committed errors. Therefore, we are faced with a choice: either to start solving all the problems by ourselves, or call a third-party engineering company to fix the problems in the Torqeedo equipment. Do you think is it possible to find such a company and where to look for it? Does anyone have fruitful experience in the modernization of Torqeedo?

There are many other Torqeedo clients in your situation. They created a group to file a class action against Torqeedo and help other victimes. It is a NPO called torpeedo[.]org
